"Escape" - Work in Progress

Escape
Click for larger version

Well, it's not done, but I started this for Illustration Friday! for 9.16.2005. The title and prompt was "escape." Made it complicated by turning it into a painting, so I didn't get it done. But, I will be finishing it soon.

My favorite form of escape is in creation, so that is my subject. "There are" after all "Worlds to be Created." (Man, I'm clever!) And, this little fella is doing just that.

You can see from this, since I'm using Photoshop 7 with a Wacom tablet, I'm working in layers. I have my sketch layer on top, so I can see form as I work in the "paint." I can click that on and off as I need to.

Let me know what you think so far and make sure to come back so you can see the final.

I'm tired and going to bed. ;o)

I'd like to see the final version too. Very complex picture. I skimed through your work and liked your style.

By the way, my son's name is Dylan Ray. Hee Hee.

Anyway, great work. Can't wait to see more.

kg: Thanks! I definitely will. ;o)

atomicvelvetsigh: Thank you. I'm glad. I normally don't work in such an opaque style, but I really like the look of it in kid's fiction, so I have been wanting to explore it more.

amy: Ha! I get that a lot, actually; people thinking my name is Dylan Ray, instead of Ray Dillon. Or Ray Dillion or Roy Dellin. It gets kinda ridiculous sometimes. ;o) Thank you for checking out my work. I will be posting the today or tomorrow.

James! Thank you very much, man. For the words and the link. Very nice of you. Oh, and don't worry about the spelling and grammatical stuff, man. I just had someone point out to me that I screwed up my clever little saying at the top. It said, "There are World to Be Created." Yikes!!

karolina Thanks for checking it out. Yeah, I haven't done whole lot of canvas painting, either. That's part of the reason why I'm so happy with tablets, because I never liked having a ton of equipment, getting messy, cleaning up, etc. I like to be able to paint, then hop up and do something else without the hassle. And the effects and procedure is just as rewarding (actually more so) for me.

I appreciate the feedback!!

This is looking good - ill check back later and see it finished.
I couldn't paint like this in Photoshop - i use photoshop all the time for image manipulation and montaging elements but just find it impossible for painting. I do all my painting in Corel Painter7.

No problemo Ray!

I need to get a tablet, I've been doing all my coloring with a mouse. A tablet would really make my life easier.

That's weird. I replied to you last night, Alison, but I guess it didn't save.

Anywho, Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I've played around in Painter a bit, but when it comes to actually doing something, I pick PS, because I know it better. I need to take some time to really get familiar with Painter, because I love the effects and look of things, but it's more complex (or at least looks that way to me, so I haven't yet.

James- Yeah, man. You definitely need to. I put it off for a long time, even though I had a feeling it would be a great thing to have. As soon as I got it I realized how much I had been missing out on. And now, I do everything with it, pencils, inks, colors, painting, etc. The best tool I've ever had.

I'll be putting up the finished version of this today.
